We offer a comprehensive programme of study for students training for Reader ministry in the Diocese of Canterbury. This involves evening classes or teaching days, pathway-specific study days and a placement. Typically, each year, you will study a module in each of the following three strands of our curriculum: Biblical Studies, Christian Doctrine and Ethics, and Church in Practice. You are expected to undertake several hours of private study per week and to complete normally two assignments per module. Training also involves participation in four study days per year, normally Saturdays. These relate specifically to the practical aspects of ministry and students’ personal formation as ministers. Students also undertake a church-based placement in a new context during their second year of training.

PATHWAYS AND MODES OF STUDY
The standard pathway for Reader training consists of four years of study with us, leading to the award of a Foundation Degree. Subject to satisfactory progress, licensing as a Reader happens after the end of two years. Students with some previous theological study may qualify for advanced status and achieve a Foundation Degree in a shorter time scale. The range of programmes we provide makes it possible to study with us up to the award of a BA (Hons) degree. The qualification for which a student is registered depends on the extent of previous study, and is agreed in consultation with the Diocese of Canterbury.
