Many
Christian
people
today want
to learn
more about
the faith
in a way
that makes
it practical,
enabling
them to
make a
positive
Christian
contribution
to the
world and
to serve
Christ.
Our
vision at
SEITE is
to provide
courses of
theological
education
that equip
people to
do precisely
this – to
make connections
between our
faith and
the world
in which
we live so
that we can
make a difference.
Students come to SEITE for a number of different reasons. Some have been sponsored by their Church to prepare for a specific form of Christian ministry. At present, these comprise Ordained Ministry Students (from the Church of England and the Methodist Church) and Readers in Training (from the Dioceses of Canterbury and Southwark). They participate in core modules and also have other, pathway specific components (with additional teaching and placements). Other students make an individual choice to come to SEITE to grow in theological understanding, gain a university qualification, enhance their lay ministry, explore a vocation to ministry or some combination of all four. Generally, they work towards a university award over at least two years, but sometimes they study for just one module or for a single year. We refer to them as Independent Students. Finally, some want to train for pioneer ministries in fresh expressions of church. We provide courses to meet all these needs.
Successful completion of a full length course will lead to the award of a Foundation Degree or a BA (Hons) in Theology for Christian Ministry from Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU). SEITE is a collaborative partner of CCCU.
We offer three modes of study:
- Part-time through weekly evening classes in central London or Canterbury
- Part-time through teaching days
- Full-time mixed-mode combining evening classes, teaching days and supervised ministerial practice (Ordained Ministry Students only)
